The Natural VBAC Birth Story
This was my second pregnancy. My first child was born by what I believe was an unnecessary c-section. I was determined to have VBAC even though my doctor was quick to offer another c-section.
One day before my
estimated due date I was already being offered an induced labour but I
decided to wait to increase my chances of having a natural birth.
On
Saturday evening I went into labour. My contractions grew stronger and
closer together for hours and then just stopped! I was very
upset to
have gone through all that pain with no baby. On Sunday the
same thing
happened and I was becoming tempted to have an induced labour.
On Monday I went into labour again but I ignored it as much as possible, believing the contractions would just stop again. I laboured at home for about 12 hours before going to the hospital.
As I was walking into the hospital, my water broke. I was 9 1/2 cm dilated and to my surprise the nurse was offering me an epidural even though I wrote in my birth plan that I did not want to be offered the epidural. When my doctor came into the delivery room he was a little confused as to why I was not hooked up to an IV.
It took about half an hour from my arrival at the hospital till my daughter was born. It was wonderful giving birth this way. I was alert aferwards and was able to go home within 24 hours. The sad reality is that natural birth is viwed by many doctors and nurses as the exception and not the norm these days.

Vanessa's natural birth story shows that when birth is left alone to proceed as it should, it waits for no one - not even doctors or midwives.
